Sheffield Diving - Training

Training times:

Standard traing times are as follows:

Daytime training: 9.30-12.15, 1.30-4.00

Evening training: 4.00-7.00

Saturday training: 10.00-4.00

Sunday training: 10.00-2.00

Different groups use different slices of this time. Each team has designated training time, this is available from each coach. Training is broken down into the following areas:

Dry training:

This consists of:

Body conditioning (making the body fitter, stronger and more flexible) using the diver's bodyweight, and small pieces of resistance apparatus (wrist/ankle weights, medicine balls etc.)

Acrobatics is training diving-specific skills using the floor, trampolines and dry diving boards. We prioritise dry training, because it's a warm, safe, high-repitition envrionment to learn difficult skills. Once they've been reinforced dry, it's much easier, (and faster) to transfer them to the pool.

Overhead rigs are tools that we use over the trampoline and dry-boards to allow divers to practise complete skills, with a coach holding them in the air and assisting them as they complete somersaults and twists. Again, to use these rigs is to re-inforce the muscle memory for a skill before taking it to the diving pool.

Wet training:

Our diving pool consists of four 1m springboards, four 3m springboards, and platforms at 1/2, 1, 3, 5, 7.5 and 10m. It has a deck level poolside ideal for learning poolside skills, and is the only pool in the country to have overhead rigs over 1m and 3m. It has a bubble machine creating safe, cushioned entry points under all 3m and platforms.
