World Championships 2005
Leon Taylor, with his platform Synchro partner Peter Waterfield, made history when he won Great Britain's first World Championships medal in Montreal in July 2005.
Their 3rd place followed Leon's 6th place in the individual platform event.
He was one of five Sheffield divers on the World Championships team. Long-time team members Mark Shipman and Tony Ally were unable to dive the synchro 3m event as Tony had injured his leg at the Pre-camp in Texas, and then aggravated it in training in Montreal. Mark dived with Peter, finishing just outside a final in 13th. Tony was unable to dive the individual 3m event with Sheffield team-mate Ben Swain. Ben dived well, hit 4 out of 6 dives and made a fair job of reverse and double-out to score 327.
Ben dived better on 1m, only missing 405c - but a personal best would still have placed him in the mid 20s.
The youngest member of the British team, Claire Blencowe, dived the Women's platform synchro with Plymouth's Tonia Couch. They did a fantastic job, breaking the British Record in the prelim and in the final, to finish 10th in the World.
